LGBT struggle comes to the stage

LGBT struggle comes to the stage

The LGBT community has been facing a harrowing time in the state. According to the community, a number of false cases are being slapped on its members and they are being victimised for their sexual orientation. The community members have decided to make their voices heard through a choreographic play titled Queen Size – A Choreographic Response to 377.

As a response to section 377 of the Indian Penal Code that criminalises homosexuality in India, Queen Size is a choreographic exploration that takes the form of a detailed study of the intimacy between two men. Played out on a charpoy, the duet examines the nuts and bolts – carnal, mechanical and emotional – of a close encounter between two male bodies.

In deliberately making this encounter visible, it poses questions around spectatorship, privacy and dissent. The work has been triggered by Nishit Saran’s article titled ‘Why My Bedroom Habits Are Your Business.’

The play will take place at Pepper House, Fort Kochi, on 21 January between 5 pm-7.30 pm. It is produced by Sandbox Collective. The organisers add that the performance is durational and runs in a loop of two-and-a-half hours. The audience can enter anytime and stay for as long as they like.

The entry for the same will be free and anyone seeking more information on the play can write to [email protected] or call 9745186466.
